BioEngine was invited to ESACT conference for international recognition of scientific research achievements

Based on the leading breakthroughs in the three research directions, "Production of new therapeutic products and vaccines using viral and non-viral vectors", "Cell culture process control and analysis" and "Integration of cell culture process engineering, product quality, and downstream processing", BioEngine received the attention of the European Society Animal Cell Technology (ESACT). Sponsored by the organizing committee, BioEngine was invited to Copenhagen, Denmark to attend the 26th ESACT conference and present four core technology achievements.

The European Society Animal Cell Technology was founded in 1976 to promote the integration of biology and engineering and to advance the knowledge and application of human and animal cells in the production of products. Members of the association include researchers and developers in applied science institutions and universities in academia, medicine, and industry, as well as scientists and engineers in medical services, industrial production, and governmental agencies. The association focuses on the entire process of animal cell production, from initial cytogenetic research, through process development, validation, production, fortification, purification, and product quality control, to final product efficacy, safety, and testing applications.

When you think of Copenhagen, you will first think of the iconic mermaid statue, the romantic fairy tale atmosphere, and the words "the world's most livable city" and "best-designed city". Less well known is the fact that Copenhagen and the southern Swedish province of Skåne, also known as Medicon Valley, is home to Europe's leading biopharmaceutical R&D and production forces and are three of the best biotech innovation sites in Europe. the conference is being held here. As one of the most famous international conferences in animal cell research, the organizer of the ESACT conference, the European Society for Animal Cell Technology, selects and invites the participants by evaluating the academic and R&D achievements of each unit, and gathers representatives from companies, research institutes and universities from various countries, including Bechtelski, to participate in this conference.

BioEngine has been insisting on basic science research, developing cutting-edge technology, actively carrying out international strategic cooperation, and conducting cell culture cooperative research with many famous research institutions at home and abroad.In June 2018, BioEngine was the only Chinese company invited to the Vaccine Technology VII international academic conference to present our research results in the field of cell culture to international experts. In April 2017, BioEngine and Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems (Germany) formally launched scientific cooperation, dedicated to the research and development of new technology and a new process of human influenza virus vaccine production based on high-density cell culture, and achieved fruitful cooperation results.

During this trip to ESACT in Denmark, BioEngine was recognized by international industry associations for its unquestionable scientific and technological strength and was presented at the international industry forum to participate in the world forum to discuss the future development of the industry, leaving a strong mark for the cell culture in China.

During the poster session, Dr. Min Chen, Director of the R&D Center of BioEngine, presented the research results of A Novel Data Analysis Tool for Cell Culture Medium Development, which attracted many scholars to further exchange.

Dr. Min Chen explained the research results to the attendees

The results are the first to combine statistical methods and machine learning models in the process of media development, and to jointly apply LOESS (local polynomial regression fitting) and RRF (repeated random forest) analysis methods to evaluate the importance of media components. The advantage of this tool is the ability to handle both linear and non-linear relationships between variables, resulting in more accurate and valid analysis results for key media components. This model can process high-dimensional data on small data sets to quickly obtain information on key components, effectively reducing the number of experimental groups in the media development process, shortening the optimization time, and accelerating the optimization process and results.

Dr. Min Chen has participated in many scientific research projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, and represented the company in major industry conferences such as World Biomaterials Congress and China Stem Cell Annual Conference and presented and exchanged results. In the field of high-density animal cell culture process and cell culture medium development, Dr. Min Chen has been working for many years and has accumulated rich academic theory and research experience, and is the backbone of the research and development team of BioEngine.

Meanwhile, Ph.D. students Qian Ye, Yanmin Zhang, and Weijian Zhang from Prof. Wensong Tan's group at the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology also went to Denmark to participate in this exchange meeting. They gave lectures on Exploring Gene Trait of Superior Influenza Virus Producing MDCK Cells, Control of Protein Sialylation in CHO Cell Culture Process, and CO2 Issues Induce Metabolic Dysfunction in CHO Cell Culture Processes. The high gold content of the research results was praised by industry peers, who expressed the positive role of these research results in promoting the optimization of the cell culture process, the improvement of cell culture technology, and the development and production of vaccines.

At the meeting, the high attention and appreciation of international experts to BioEngine's scientific research achievements showed that BioEngine has profound technology accumulation and excellent R&D and innovation ability. Through continuous research exploration and cooperation, Bechtel has achieved excellent results in the development and production of serum-free culture medium, optimization and amplification of large-scale high-density culture process of animal cells, and industrialization application of cell culture technology, etc. Many technologies are at the international leading level. In the future, BioEngine will also continue to be down-to-earth, devoted to scientific research and transformation of results, further improve the level of scientific and technological innovation, and provide sufficient power to promote the sustainable development of the biomedical industry.
